client Estée Lauder – Jo Malone
location Macy’s Herald Square, NYC
project type Shop-in-shop

Visual Elements partnered on the development and execution of Jo Malone’s new shop-in-shop concept at Macy’s Herald Square, helping bring an elevated fixture program to life within one of the most iconic department store settings in the world. Though compact in footprint, the space called for a highly resolved fixture package that felt warm, premium, and beautifully detailed.

Completed on a fast-track schedule ahead of the holiday season, this project showcases VE’s ability to execute intricate retail environments with precision under pressure.

Delivering this project successfully required balancing precision, speed, and premium execution across a compact footprint with little room for error.

Key challenges included:

  • Deliver a new fixture package on an accelerated timeline ahead of holiday launch
  • Resolve intricate details across shelving, glass display, lighting, and material transitions
  • Maintain tight tolerances throughout layered profiles, corners, reveals, and illuminated elements
  • Prototype key components early to validate fit, finish, and constructability
  • Coordinate closely with both the Jo Malone brand team and Macy’s department store requirements
  • Execute installation after hours with union coordination in an active flagship retail environment

our solution

Visual Elements approached the project with a strong focus on technical development, precision fabrication, and seamless execution.

  • Engineered the fixture package to support premium detailing, clean integration, and efficient installation
  • Prototyped key elements, including the corner column and layered solid surface profile, to confirm fit and finish before production
  • Fabricated custom millwork with machined tambour paneling, precision corner joinery, walnut trims, veneer, and integrated pull-out glass display components
  • Produced thermoformed solid surface elements that introduced soft, sculpted edges and a tailored fixture profile
  • Integrated tempered glass shelving and display vitrines to keep the presentation light, open, and elegant
  • Coordinated integrated lighting and backlit signage with concealed wiring and crisp sightlines throughout
  • Developed machined aluminum and refined PVD hardware details that added durability and jewelry-like precision
  • Managed logistics, freight, and installation coordination to deliver the project on schedule and with zero deficiencies
